The future of war: Far-out battle tech

This is the scoop!

• U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency has been funding some very far out military technology.
• It's being compared to Q branch in James Bond.
• DARPA often funds private companies and external organizations to develop its high-tech hardware
• Some ideas are: Flying cars, a Airplane that can stay airborne for five years, and a robot ostrich?????
• With Darpa funding these projects they seem more and more able to happen.
• Currently on the site though it lists only 11 of the things that Darpa is working on.
• Maybe one day we will have lightsabers . . . EPIC MUCH! I THINK SO!!!!! \m/ Rock n' Roll!

'Grand Theft Auto III' coming to smartphones and tablets next week

• 10 years after the debut of the game Grand theft auto is moving to the smart phones
• It is said to happen on December 15
• The price of it is $5.00 and will go on all apple products
• The "Grand Theft Auto" series debuted in 1997 and is now has sold 114 million copies worldwide
• This is a precursor to the Launch of "GTA V" which is still in development 

Amazon and eBay brawl over Web sales tax

• On Wednesday, during a congressional hearing the two fought about whether states should collect sales tax on Internet purchases
• Cnn.com says " EBay's stance is that tougher sales tax collection laws would hurt the small merchants that use its sales platform"
• To this Amazon said that Ebay was hardly a small buisness
• Though Ebay is not the one that would be paying all of this, It's the subscibers
• If anything this would hurt Ebay more then it would hurt Amazon and it would cause more to go to Amazon
• In my opinion I don't think that we should have this because we already have to pay a lot for shipping and original price 
• Though there are somethings that are better found on Ebay then On Amazon like cars and such but with Amazon you can get newer stuff

Android crushed the smartphone competition last quarter

• Android has brought up it's game and has is now the top dog
• Symbian, another competitor in this race, has been destroyed in this race
• Android OS  now leads the pack with 52.5% of the global market store
• Two major factors lead to the decline of Apple's iPhone: Rumors of a new iPhone and price cuts for older models, both never happened
• While Apple is falling behind in new models, Android has a huge selection of phones to pick from
• Though iOs believes it will begin a massive counter-attack that will sweep the enemy away for awhile
• though the iPhone seems cool I feel that I would rather want a Android

What I learned in boating school is!

In the first Semester I took Web 2.0. I learned a lot from this class in the first marking period. From tech articles to videos we have watched in class I have learned that world is becoming 1) more dependent on electric devices today. 2) that these also make the world go faster. I have also learned how many websites in this world that were used for entertainment can help you in school. An example, of this is Voki.

What I did this weekend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All I did this was play video games and do a project. I managed to FINALLY beat Black Ops. I did Really bad in this one game that I play called R.U.S.E. Then I started a massive campaign to take out this bulge the Germans have made in my lines in another game called HEARTS OF IRON 3. The part of the game I am talking about now though is when I am playing as the Russians between February 1, 1943 and then to 1948. I start at 1943 for the Russians because it's after the battle of Stalingrad. I am now trying to push the Germans out. Will I succeed? I don't know, I hope I do because I have to win World War 2 on the Eastern Front by June 6, because if I don't then the Allies will have a harder time to land in the West and we will not win fast enough before the Germans get the weapons that will change the war.

It's Nook vs. Kindle: Round II

• Barnes and Nobles is not afraid of Amazon.
• Round 1 was between the original Kindle and the original Nook.
• Next week the second battle, however, will begin between the Kindle Fire, and the Nook
• The battle will only be over after the holiday season and everyone has received their tablet
• You see the thing is that the Kindle is $50 less and the Nook has more storage and battery life
• For me this battle has little effect because I already have a Kindle
• I also like that the Kindle has no glare and that Kindle tried to but a screen that can't have glare.

Netflix loses 800,000 subscribers

• In the last quarter instead of increasing it shrank
• Netflix is saying that it has hurt everyone in the company
• Netflix is thinking that it will stop changing the prices but that's no done seeing the end of the bleeding
• Cnn. com says "Netflix had 23.8 million total U.S. subscribers as of Sept. 30, down from 24.6 million three months earlier. Around 21.5 million customers had streaming subscriptions, and just under 14 million had DVD subscriptions, with most customers mixing the two."
• Netflix has lost 27% shares
• It's trying to expand to Ireland and England
• the money has turned from 376,000,000 to 366,000,000
• Netflix is going into the next quarter with a bad start and new opponents

Robotic sailboats built to clean up oil spill

• After the Oil spill in April a young engineer from MIT decided after visiting that it was time for a change
• Our array of oil skimming technology is a little on the primitive side
• Protei is a group of unmanned Autonomous, almost inexpensive way of cleaning up 
• In a few years time Cesar Harada, the creator of Protei, imagines other uses of unmanned boats
• Some examples are oceanography and surveillance
• On the first episode of a show name "Upgrade", the topic was a rag tag group of scientists try and put together a prototype

Green sidewalk makes electricity -- one footstep at a time

• In London there's a new type of floor tile that will use kinetic energy to power appliances
• This is called PaveGen
• What PaveGen does is, once you step on the tile takes in the kinetic energy and immediately sends little things of electricity to the nearest appliance 
• This can also hold up to three days of energy do to the on board battery
• The first commercial use for these will be 20 tiles spread out throughout London's Olympic stadium and the new Westfield  Stratford City mall which is supposed to have 30 million customers in the first year

• Cisco ceo said on Wednesday that "video will be the new form of communication in I.T.
• While he was saying this thousands began to use their Internet-connected mobile devices enable easier video production and consumption
• The thing is that it's all part of the plan Cisco has,
• The more bits that travel through the interenet the more people will want to use Cisco type routers
• As smartphones get better and memory gets cheaper videos will be easier to use
• Also The ceo has made a device where people in the conversation can be identified
• If the change doesn't go as fast or as big as the Ceo wants it to he believes that in 2013 140 devices will be connected to one person

Weekend of October 1

My weekend began when I got home on October 1. Knowing I was going to have to do projects the following day a decided to do the homework that  was do on Monday first. When my second dad, Ted came over I began to relax more. I sat and watched T.v. When Ted left I went to sleep thinking that the day was a wasted one I went to sleep. All weekend I had done homework and projects. On Sunday once I had finished my math project I played Beatles Rockband and started playing on hard. I did bad but I just need practice

Pandora overhauls site amid Web music boom

• Pandora.com is a website where you type in a name of a group and it finds songs from that group and others that sound like it.
• Wednesday it released new changes
• A post on the site called it the new Pandora and said that "it was more responsive, easier to use, and better integrated with the friends and music lovers in your life."
• For two monthes they were twiking the new site to what their fans and they wanted it to be.
• New featres include:
• Simplified station creation
• better Socialness
• more info on song and artist
•  raising the cap of listening to 320 instead of the 40 it used to be
• As of july Pandora had 100 million regisered users and 36 million monthly users

Why I like fall

I enjoy the fall because of three things. One is the hoidays we celebrate in the fall, This inludes Thanksgiving and Halloween. Two, I love the food of fall. We can eat pumkin pie. Three, fall looks awesome. It's the start of new shows on tv.
